What Type of Annuity Is Right For You?

The Benefits of

Annuities For Retirement

An annuity is a product that offers the benefit of guaranteed* lifetime income. It is a contract between a person and an insurance company, and comes with different benefits depending on the type. Which type of annuity is right for you depends on your own personal goals and priorities. Our goal here at Green Line Financial is to provide you with the information you need to decide if annuities for retirement are the right option for you.

Fixed Indexed Annuity For Retirement

Let’s consider a fixed indexed annuity (FIA). An FIA tracks the performance of an index, and its interest rates are based on the increases in that index. However, an FIA is not an investment. In this way, it differs from a variable annuity, which invests your money directly in the market. With an FIA, your money is kept safe in a reserve. A fixed annuity also keeps your money safe, but doesn’t come with the potential for higher interest rates. An FIA offers a guarantee* of safety and indexed interest at reasonable rates of return** over time. For this reason, many would consider an FIA “the best of both worlds.”

FIAs Vs. Traditional Retirement Accounts

Fixed indexed annuities for retirement offer a higher level of flexibility than traditional retirement accounts, such as a 401(k) or IRA, would. For example:

  • FIAs do not come with contribution limits
  • Your money is able to grow, tax-deferred, meaning you will only pay taxes on it when you withdraw it
  • Your money will remain protected in the event of a stock market crash
  • You can potentially “roll over” the money in your 401(k) or IRA plan into an FIA instead
